Surgery On A Coast Live Oak

Surgical process of the removal of an infection on a Coast Live Oak.

Photo 1: post infection removal

Two trees grew together & created an opening between them that allowed water to settle, the bark closed and began to rot with the moisture, inviting pathogens into the tissue. We surgically removed the infection using a hatchet & multi tool then cauterized it with a blowtorch.

Photo 2: pre-surgery (can see fungal growth)

Photos 3 and 4 are mid surgery.
